With the Holiday Season upon us and in full swing, it can be extremely difficult to find those moments of peace amongst it all. Enter “PANTONE Cloud Dancer 11-4201”, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2026. Described as a “whisper of calm and peace in a noisy world”, Cloud Dancer is a white hue that encourages not only relaxation and serenity, but one’s desire to start anew.
On the choice of colour, the Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, had this to say:
“At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, PANTONE Cloud Dancer 11-4201 is a discrete white hue offering a promise of clarity. The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences”.
Pantone’s literary showboating aside,
Cloud Dancer represents either a blank canvas or fresh start, depending on one’s outlook on the colour. It can stimulate the senses, allowing for innovation within the creative space or it can calm ones nerves, granting a moment of much needed peace to allow for a reset.
Despite the colour’s message of “fresh starts”, the 2026 winner does reinforce a trend of “Blandification” when it comes to the yearly colour choice. Initially started with 2024’s Peach Fuzz and continued with 2025’s Mocha Mousse, the trend shows a shift towards colours that are neutral in nature rather than hues that would make a bold statement. This is in contrast to current trends where “loud” colours are slowly making a comeback.
It’s extremely early to start speculation, the hope would be that Pantone takes the advice of Cloud Dancer for 2027 and “experiment beyond traditional boundaries” – making way for the exuberant colours of the past and ditching the bland shades of the present.
